Madaraka day is celebrated on June 1st to commemorate the day Kenya attained internal self-rule in 1963.

This 56th Madaraka day celebration will be held in Narok County, home of the world-renowned Maasai Mara Game Reserve and eighth wonder of the world, “The wildebeest migration” an annual trek of wildebeest to and from Maasai Mara and Serengeti in Tanzania.

Following the celebrations in Narok County on June 1st 2019,  the county government of Narok will offer free access to the Maasai Mara game reserve to all domestic tourists.
